Abstract
In recent years, the issue of companies' human rights due diligence obligations has increasingly become the focus of regulatory debate. The German Supply Chain Due Diligence Act obliges companies to carry out a comprehensive analysis of human rights risks. These include forced labour and child labour in the supply chain. Reports of human rights violations in the People's Republic of China, particularly in the Xinjiang/East Turkestan region, have been on the rise for several years. As Xinjiang plays an important role in international supply chains, German companies are also affected by allegations, including BASF and Volkswagen, which operate plants in the region. The lecture therefore deals with the human rights implications of trade by German companies in the region and critically analyses what measures companies should take to prevent violations of human rights standards.
