Project: Geoarchaeology & Landscape Reconstruction
Bubastis was situated within a dynamic riverine landscape with constantly changing hydrography. The activity periods and courses of the waterways surrounding Bubastis, from the mighty Pelusiac Nile branch to the small local canals, had a significant impact on the fate of the city. Additionally, the canals around the Temple of Bastet were a central element of the city's sacred landscape. Therefore, geoarchaeological studies for reconstructing the paleolandscape of Bubastis and its hinterland form an essential part of the Tell Basta Project. (Publ.
