Project coordinators: Prof. Dr. Björn Alpermann, Prof. Dr. Shaohua Zhan (Nanyang Technological University, Singapur)
The rapid ageing of the Chinese population poses enormous challenges for the country’s politics and society. The proportion of the overall population over 60 in China was already 13.3 percent (178 million people) in 2010 and is projected to grow to one third by 2050. This project aims to investigate which policy instruments are used to manage this demographic transition, which key actors are involved in policy implementation at the local level and what strategies do they pursue, as well which formal and informal institutions of eldercare exist in urban and rural areas.
