Summer semester 2020 information (Master)
04/16/2020Dear master students,
The regulations due to the corona pandemic currently do not allow regular classes. Whether that will again be possible at a later point in the summer term is not clear yet. Still, the summer term 2020 will take place. All courses will therefore be offered as online courses. Even though legally the current term will not count as a study term for you, you will still be able to take exams and finish the term as well as – for upcoming graduates – the program regularly. The study period of the summer term has been extended by the university for two weeks, in order to allow to finish all exams. The Sinology Department, however, currently does not plan to expand the examination period beyond the end of July.
All courses in the master programs, except for Michael Leibold’s HI module and Florian Thünken’s Academic Writing, will be offered. Prof. Altenburger’s HI Intensification Seminar, originally announced as „Encyclopedias of Everyday Life“, will be changed to „The Local in Late Imperial Chinese History and Literature“ due to difficulties in providing access to source materials under the current circumstances. The preparation class for ECLC (winter term at PKU) will take place. The course of Shi Heng will start in the week of April 27th. In case someone still needs to take courses at the BA-level (Modern China), please check the information in German. CBE/CLE students should inform themselves on regulations for courses at the Department of Economics.
We intend to inform you via our homepage, SinKom and WueCampus. General information will be provided on the homepage, program specific information on SinKom and course specific information on WueCampus. Please make sure you are registered in SinKom. If this is not the case, please inform Michael Leibold or Florian Thünken.
Courses will start as planned and according to schedule on Wednesday, April 22nd. A list of passwords to access your courses on WueCampus will either be given to you by the teachers themselves or via SinKom, next Tuesday, April 21st, at the latest.
We all know that online teaching cannot fully substitute personal teaching and hope to be able to return to normality as soon as possible. In case of individual questions, feel free to contact us.
Under the current circumstances, we still wish you a successful semester!
