SoSe 2023: Vier Ägypterinnen in Würzburg

Im Sommer 2023 waren Basant, Hadir, Howida und Shadwa bei uns zu Gast, um ein Austauschsemester "Museum und alte Kulturen" zu absolvieren. Sie erreichten Würzburg im April und wurden von der Projektkoordinatorin Elisabeth Greifenstein, den beiden Tutor:innen Lea Sophie Formhals und Lyric Stott und den Buddies Diana Frik und Corinna Franz in Empfang genommen. Neben zahlreichen Lehrveranstaltungen im Studium nahmen Sie an Tagungen und Exkursionen teil und gingen in den letzten Wochen in ein Museumspraktikum: ins tim in Augsburg, ins smac in Chemnitz, ins technoseum in Mannheim und ins Badische Landesmuseum in Karlsruhe. Nach ihrer Abreise im August 2023 sind wir besonders über die Tatsache traurig, dass dies vorerst der letzte vom DAAD finanzierte Austausch gewesen war. Wir gehen mit dem Programm vorerst in eine Pause. Neue Strukturen und Zuständigkeiten in der Universität Würzburg stellten das Team des DAAD-Projekts vor große organisatorische Herausforderungen, für die nun Lösungen gefunden werden müssen. Sobald es dazu Neuigkeiten geben sollte, werden wir auf dieser Homepage davon berichten.

Der Austausch ist aber weiterhin möglich. Entweder als Selbstzahler:in oder aber durch ein PROMOS-Stipendium des International Office unterstützt, können Sie auch weiterhin ein Wintersemester an der Helwan University Kairo verbringen. Die Strukturen und Erfahrungen sind dafür vorhanden. Bitte melden Sie sich rechtzeitig bei der Koordinatorin Elisabeth Greifenstein (elisabeth.greifenstein@uni-wuerzburg.de), wenn Sie sich dafür interessieren (spätestens bis Anfang April des jeweiligen Jahres).  

Praktikumsbericht von Basant, smac, Chemnitz, August 2023

My name is Basant Shalpy. I’m from Egypt and at the end of my semester in Germany, I had the opportunity to do my internship at the State Museum of Archeology Chemnitz (SMAC). A very pleasant and challenging experience being an intern at one of the best inclusive museums in Saxony with the most modern exhibition technology. Luckily for me, my internship was during a special foyer exhibition about Egypt and the museum was doing workshops for children to learn more about Egypt and make straw boats bearing their names in hieroglyphics. I enjoyed participating in the workshop, answering the children's curious questions about Egypt, and helping them write hieroglyphics. Chemnitz won the European Capital of Culture 2025, the museum had to prepare for a second exhibition about Mining in Saxony. Talking about the history of mining, I had the pleasure of doing research about mining in Egypt and the stone tools from the Palaeolithic period for the museum and creating ideas for children's interaction in the exhibition. It was fruitful to learn more about making an exhibition, from deciding the concept to the design-making and how the museum choose the objects and the media used to interact with visitors. I was grateful for the SMAC team explaining the process. “New experiences could lead to new ideas” and that is exactly what the Smac Museum did. Going on an adventure into a Mine to feel and understand more about mining to create the best experience a visitor could have. And as for me, it was an incredible experience to be in a cold mine underground in the Ore mountains in Lößnitz.
