"There is a whole community of other people who see the world a little bit the same as you and suddenly it doesn't feel as lonely anymore." Jan Carson
What inspires students to engage in creative writing, why is it important in an academic context, and how do communities influence the writing process? Antonios Smyrnaios discusses these and other questions with Northern Irish author Jan Carson and Marie Fenzl, Pia Kauer, Corinna Keupp, and Henrike Kleuser, participants of Carson’s writing workshop at JMU.
The stories took shape in the creative writing workshop offered by author Jan Carson at the Schreibzentrum | Writing Center of the JMU Würzburg in Summer Term 2021. The workshop was made possible through the support of JMU American Studies, Irish Studies Würzburg (ISWÜ), and WueGlobal - Writing, Learning, Digital Connection" funded by the International Virtual Academic Collaboration Program (IVAC) / Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD) / Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF).
Some of the short stories the students wrote for the writing workshop can be found on the blog DenksportART.
