Übung: Digital Practice A: Digitizing and Linking Ancient Sources

Content:
The module introduces and trains student in building, modifying, and efficiently using digital data collections with the help of spreadsheets, databases, and annotation techniques. Interoperability and standardization are addressed, as are digitization techniques used to document cultural heritage. Examples of application come from the archaeology and history of ancient West Asia.

Learning objectives:
Acquisition of methodological competencies for the digital indexing of artifacts, images and texts, their syste matic labeling with metadata and their networking with other digital resources. Practical training is achieved through exercises and project work.

Examination:
a) presentation (approx. 45 minutes) with handout (1 to 2 pages) or
b) term paper (2,000 to 2,500 words excluding bibliography) or
c) practical project (e. g. network analysis, quantitative evaluation of an object corpus and/or mapping in time and space, approx. 30 hours total)
